TWO GUYS with GUITARS are Ray Haapala and Bill Palmer from Green River, Wyoming. They’ve been writing music and playing together since a mutual friend introduced them in late 1979. They clicked immediately and their second time playing together was a New Years Eve show at the Iron Horse Lounge in Green River. That show led to playing bi-monthly at that same venue for the next two years, where Ray and Bill honed their craft live. The name came from people talking about “these two guys with guitars playing good music up at the ‘Horse’ on Saturday nights”. The guys rolled with it and the rest is history.
Original music has always been a major staple of their set lists since that first show. Between the two of them, there’s easily been over 500 compositions penned with most recorded in one form or another. Easily, they could fill a set list with only original material but in the bars you play to the people and in Wyoming that means everything from songs by Alabama and Waylon to Led Zeppelin and Judas Priest. They played everything and it shows in their writing. A listen through their first CD release, “It’s What We Do”, confirms it.
